Medicare Advantage plans, sometimes referred to as Medicare Part C, cover all Medicare Part A and Part B services and provide additional coverage for services not covered under Part A and Part B. In order to qualify, you must be eligible for Medicare Part A (hospital services) and enrolled in Medicare Part B (medical services).

Who issues Medicare Advantage plans?

Medicare Advantage plans are administered by private health insurance companies, but all plans must be approved by Medicare and compliant with Medicare’s guidelines.

Medicare Advantage plans must cover the following services, even when provided by non-network providers:

  • Emergency services,
  • Out-of-area urgently needed services, and
  • Out-of-area renal dialysis.

Additionally, Medicare Advantage plans often help cover:

  • Prescription drugs
  • Vision, hearing, and dental services
  • Gym memberships

Is Medicare Advantage a better plan for me than a Medicare supplement plan?

  • Generally, Medicare Advantage plans have lower premiums than Medicare Supplement plans but have higher out-of-pocket costs.
  • Medicare Advantage plans protect you with a maximum out-of-pocket limit that caps how much you’re responsible for paying out of pocket.
  • Medicare Advantage plans offer prescription coverage so you don’t have to enroll separately in Medicare Part D.

Since Medicare Advantage plans are issued by private health insurance companies, not all plans offer the same coverage options. Our team will partner with you to help you find the right Medicare Advantage plan for your budget and coverage needs.

How do I enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan?

  • First, enroll in Medicare Part A and B through your Social Security or Railroad Retirement Board. Enrollment instructions can be found here.
  • Discuss your needs, budget, and coverage options with your Savers Health team. Your cost of coverage is regulated and is the same regardless of which agent you enroll with, so let Savers help you find the perfect fit as there’s no additional cost to you!
  • Select and apply for your Medicare Advantage coverage. You can do this through the Savers Health team or on your own using the MedicareApp.
  • Once approved, you’ll activate your new plan by paying your first premium and having your new insurance card with you at your next appointment.
